The construction of coal - fired power unit in Jaworzno has commenced

- The investment in Jaworzno will lead to the creation of one of the largest power units in Poland, which will provide energy for 2.5 million households and will be able to satisfy 5 percent of the national demand for electricity per year. Within a few years, the power units with a total capacity of 5 thousand MW will be created throughout Poland, therefore it can be said with confidence that Polish energy sector is experiencing an investment boom - said Zdzislaw Gawlik, Deputy Minister of State Treasury, who took part in the inauguration of the investment carried out by TAURON.

The power unit of Elektrownia Jaworzno III will have the capacity of 910 MW. It is one of the most state - of - the - art units of this type in Europe. Its net efficiency will be close to 46 percent. The power unit in Jaworzno will also meet the strict EU standards of environmental protection. All formalities related to the investment - including the building permit - have already been completed. TAURON Group in the years 2014 - 2023 will put into operation about 2200 MW power generation capacity, including about 1,000 MW in coal - based technology.

The investment in Jaworzno will guarantee several thousand workplaces in nearby coal mines supplying fuel to the power unit for a few decades to come.

Within six years the expenditures of the companies under the Ministry of State Treasury supervision for the production capacity expansion will amount to PLN 30 billion. This will lead to the creation of thousands of workplaces - in the peak period the energy investment construction sites only will employ 8 thousand people. Also Polish subcontractors and suppliers will be involved in the investment.
