US Cavalry And Airborne Units In Poland - Again

Mechanized and airborne US Army elements have begun joint training exercise with the Polish 6th Airborne Brigade. The elements have been deployed by the 173rd Airborne Brigade and by the 2nd Cavalry Regiment of the US Army, both of which are permanently stationed in Europe.

For the next three months, the Polish soldiers from the 6th Airborne Brigade are going to train together with the American troops from the 2nd Cavalry Regiment and the 173rd Airborne Brigade ‘s Infantry Combat Group – as it was reported by Marcin Gil from the 6th Airborne Brigade. Both of the US units have already taken part in the exercises related to reinforcement of the NATO Eastern flank.

2nd Cavalry Regiment, earlier on, was also involved in joint operations with the 12th Mechanized Brigade, carried out within the scope of the Dragoon Ride exercise – a road march from Mid-Eastern Europe towards the permanent bases. 173Rd Brigade, as the first unit of the US Army, sent land forces to Poland and the Baltic states in 2015.

The training was divided into 3 stages, each of which is going to take place within a different military firing range. Throughout the first month, the Americans are going to train in Nowa Dęba, to get transferred to Wędrzyn later, and visit Drawsko Pomorskie range during the last stage.

The plan assumes that tactical and live-fire trainings are going to be executed. This year, besides the US Airborne troops, the Polish “Red Berets” will also get a chance to cooperate with motorized units, as cpt. Gil reports. One of the companies of the 2nd Regiment is equipped with 20 wheeled Stryker APC’s.
