Korea – Krab Chassis Shipped To Poland
The first chassis for the Polish Krab self-propelled howitzer was presented in South Korea. Now the vehicle is being shipped to Poland.
According to the information released by the DAPA agency, the release regarding the presentation of the first K-9 howitzer chassis was issued on Friday, 26th June. The vehicle is already being shipped to Poland.
Delivery of the K-9 chassis for the Krab howitzers is regulated by a relevant agreement, signed in December last year. According to that agreement, 36 vehicles are going to be delivered from Korea to Poland, including 24 examples that are going to be shipped until 2017 (for a single artillery squadron). The further 84 vehicles are going to be manufactured at the production facilities of the Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (Polish Armament Group) company.
The agreement pertaining the license manufacturing of the K9 chassiss, signed by Huta Stalowa Wola (Stalowa Wola Ironworks) was caused by, inter alia, defects detected in the vehicles manufactured by the Bumar-Łabędy factory. In its basic assumption, the agreement is going to make it possible for the Polish industry to make a technological leap within the area of the heavy track-chassis vehicles.
Polish MoD’s Under-secretary of State, Maciej Janowski, stated that the contract provides Poland with “unlimited possibilities within the scope of the future use” of the vehicles in the manufactured weapons systems. The chassis that is going to be license-manufactured in Poland would also be used in vehicles which are to be exportable.
