Fewer and fewer U.S. troops in Estonia. What about Poland?
Fewer than 100 American soldiers are currently stationed in Estonia. Will the situation improve in the near future? What about the American troops in Poland?
According to Estonian Minister of Defence Hanno Pevkur, there are currently fewer than 100 US soldiers in the country. This is the smallest number of American military personnel in this Baltic state since 2022 (when a bilateral agreement on the rotational deployment of Americans in Estonia was signed). As the head of the Estonian Ministry of Defence announced, the number of US troops should increase in the coming weeks. It is unknown how large the reinforcement will be. According to Pevkur, the new soldiers will arrive in Estonia as part of the next rotation to Poland.
This rotation has just been announced by the head of the Polish Ministry of National Defence, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
„Within the coming weeks, the rotation of American troops in Poland will be completed,” announced Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence. Kosiniak-Kamysz reported that the recently suspended rotation of American soldiers is returning to Poland.
„I received information from Stephanie Holmes, the US Deputy Defense Attaché, that the rotation is returning. Within the coming weeks, the rotation of American troops in Poland will be completed,” said the head of the Ministry of National Defence.
In mid-May, reports emerged regarding the cancellation of the deployment of approximately 4,000 American soldiers from an armored brigade to Poland. The Pentagon’s decision sparked a media storm in both Poland and the United States. Approximately 10,000 US troops are currently stationed in Poland.
