The delivery of the latest tanks, which will soon be in the armament of the Polish Armed Forces, was announced on the X portal by the head of the Ministry of National Defence, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. After unloading, the vehicles will undergo an overhaul and will go to one of the Polish Army units. It was previously said that the delivery could still be made at the end of 2024, but the tanks finally arrived in Poland on 18 January 2025.

The M1A2 Abrams Sep v.3 is the latest series release of US tanks. Poland ordered 250 tanks on 5 April 2022. The contract was valued at $4.75bn and, in addition to the delivery of the tanks, included 26 M88A2 Hercules support vehicles and 17 M1110 Joint Assault Bridge support vehicles, as well as a training and logistics package.

The Sep v. 3 is an upgraded version with improved combat characteristics including armour, fire control system capabilities and crew survivability. The vehicle weighs more than 60 tonnes and will be the heaviest tank on the Polish Army’s equipment.

In addition to the Abrams Sep. v3 version, Poland already uses this type of vehicle in the older M1A1 FEP version, which was purchased from the U.S. Army in the number of 116 units. These vehicles underwent a full overhaul before entering service with the Polish Army, and were delivered at an express pace between 2022 and 2024. The vehicles serve in the 18th Mechanised Division. The cost of their purchase was $1.4bn.
