Sławomir Cenckiewicz to Become the New Head of the National Security Bureau

Professor Sławomir Cenckiewicz is to be the new head of the National Security Bureau (BBN), announced President‑Elect Karol Nawrocki.
„I have decided that the head of the BBN will be Professor Sławomir Cenckiewicz. Not only an outstanding intellectual and academic, but also the director of the Military Historical Bureau, and the author of many books on the operations of communist and Soviet intelligence services (…)” said President‑Elect Karol Nawrocki during a Thursday press briefing in Warsaw.
„In the architecture of the state’s security—in addition to a strong and modern army—the decisive factors are competence, experience, and a pro‑state stance. These are precisely the qualities that characterize the new heads of @BBN\_pl, whom I have had the honor to appoint.”, Nawrocki stated via Twitter.
W architekturze bezpieczeństwa państwa, obok silnej i nowoczesnej armii, kluczowe znaczenie mają kompetencje, doświadczenie oraz propaństwowa postawa. Te właśnie cechy charakteryzują nowych szefów @BBN_pl, których miałem zaszczyt wskazać. pic.twitter.com/iPKsFMKsoi

At the same event, the BBN’s future head briefly outlined his vision for the Bureau.
„The bureau we will lead will not be a bastion of dissent against whatever good proposals come from the government, primarily the Minister of Defense or the Ministry of Interior and Administration, if they advance the country’s defense. In all of this, we will support the Polish government,” Professor Cenckiewicz announced.
„We will not be unwitting midwives of whatever proposals come from the government. We aim to be a substantive support in crafting the optimal projects for Poland,” he continued.
New Deputy Heads of the BBN
The deputies to the future head of the BBN are to be Major General Andrzej Kowalski and Major General Mirosław Bryś (the former chief of the Central Military Recruitment Centre).
Major General Andrzej Kowalski served as Chief of Military Intelligence from 2015 to 2020. Earlier, he was also associated with the Counterintelligence Department of the Office for State Protection and the Internal Security Agency.
Major General Mirosław Bryś is the former head of the Central Military Recruitment Centre and former commander of the 4th Warmian‑Masurian Territorial Defense Brigade. In the past he was also linked to the 6th Airborne Brigade, where he served as deputy commander.
