As reported by the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrij Sybiha, during a Russian missile attack on Ukraine, one of the missiles violated Polish airspace and fell on its territory.
“Overnight, a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile crossed into Poland as part of Russia’s massive strike against Ukraine, violating NATO airspace. This is yet another clear demonstration that strengthening Ukraine’s air defence now is urgent and serves as a guarantee for the protection of the entire Euro-Atlantic community,” Sybiha wrote on the X platform.
The Polish Operational Command of the Armed Forces (Dowództwo Operacyjne Rodzajów Sił Zbrojnych – DORSZ) reported that an unidentified object was detected during the night between Wednesday and Thursday. An F-16 fighter jet was scrambled for reconnaissance and interception; however, after some time, the object disappeared from radar system indications. Subsequently, a Mi-24 helicopter was dispatched to the area of the object’s last known position. The helicopter crew located the crash site in an uninhabited area near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia in the Lublin Voivodeship.

Military personnel were reportedly ready to shoot down the object, but according to the DORSZ spokesperson, “before neutralisation, such an object must be identified to ensure it is not a civilian object that has appeared in our systems; therefore, identification of the object must occur, for instance by a fighter jet, and only then can the Operational Commander make a decision and issue an order for the potential neutralisation of such an object that could pose a threat.”
