Death of Khamenei marks major shift in Middle East
The Israeli and U.S. attack on Iran brought numerous developments in less than 48 hours. Here is a brief summary from Sunday.
As a result of the joint American-Israeli missile strikes, Iran’s supreme spiritual and political leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed. On Sunday, Iranian state television also confirmed the deaths of the Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Abdulrahim Mousavi, and the Minister of Defense, Aziz Nasirzadeh.
Earlier, Iranian authorities had reported the deaths of the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Mohammad Pakpour, and the national security adviser, Ali Shamkhani.
CENTCOM Information
According to information released by the U.S. Central Command, on Sunday, March 1, during OperationEpic Fury, at least three U.S. Army soldiers were killed and five were seriously wounded. There are additional casualties, but the number of soldiers with minor injuries has not yet been confirmed.
An Iranian Jamaran-class corvette was struck by U.S. forces during the start of Operation Epic Fury. The ship is currently sinking to the bottom of the Gulf of Oman at a Chah Bahar pier. CENTCOM also reported that during OperationEpic Fury, U.S. forces destroyed an Iranian Jamaran-class corvette. The strike occurred in the Gulf of Oman, near the Chah Bahar pier. Interestingly, duringEpic Fury, the United States Air Force reportedly deployed four B-2ASpirit bombers.
