“Estonia is ready to respond to Russia”

Estonia openly signals that it is prepared to respond firmly to any form of Russian aggression, whether conventional or hybrid. Tallinn continues investing heavily in territorial defence, ammunition stockpiles, cyber capabilities and NATO interoperability because Estonia understands that deterrence on the eastern flank must be practical and immediate, not only political. The war in Ukraine fundamentally accelerated Estonian defence planning and strengthened the conviction that every NATO member bordering Russia must be prepared for rapid escalation scenarios.

At the same time, Estonia strongly emphasises allied cooperation. NATO presence in the Baltic region, military exercises and integration with partners such as Poland, Finland and the United Kingdom remain central elements of Estonian defence policy. Tallinn also increasingly focuses on military mobility and rapid deployment capabilities because the ability to move allied forces quickly across the region may become decisive during the first days of any future crisis.
