Pro-Iranian Shia militias in Iraq have announced a $10 million reward for anyone who carries out a successful assassination of the US President Donald Trump.

The assassination is intended as retaliation for the death of the head of foreign operations of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), General Qasem Soleimani, and the deputy commander of the paramilitary Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis. Both men were killed in a US drone strike in 2020.

According to the Iranian portal Press TV, the reward money was raised from donations provided by members and supporters of Shia groups in Iraq. “The free people of the world will continue to pursue the killer of children and scientists,” and “oppressors will never know peace,” the pro-Iranian groups announced, referring to Trump. Iraqi Shia militias describe themselves as the Islamic Resistance in Iraq. Under this name, the groups have carried out strikes on US troops stationed in Iraq and Syria and have attacked Israel.

President Trump claims that Iran is constantly attempting to assassinate him. Time magazine noted that in 2024, a Pakistani citizen, Asif Merchant, was convicted of a conspiracy aimed at killing US politicians, including Donald Trump. The man allegedly acted on the instructions of the IRGC and hired assassins within the United States. In the same year, charges were brought against an Afghan citizen, Farhad Shakeri, who is alleged to have developed plans to assassinate the president at the behest of the Iranian authorities.
