Fire at facility producing Su-57

A significant fire has recently broken out at a Russian aviation plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, resulting in the collapse of one of the production halls. The facility is responsible for manufacturing, among others, the Su-35S and Su-57 fighter aircraft.

According to Militarnyi, the fire particularly affected Hall No. 46, where approximately 300 components for the Su-57 were produced. The cause of the incident remains unknown. Satellite imagery suggests that part of the structure, including sections of the roof, has collapsed, indicating potentially severe damage to the facility.

The disruption may have a noticeable impact on supply chains linked to the production of both aircraft types. In 2025, the plant was expected to deliver several batches of Su-35S fighters and at least two Su-57 aircraft to the Russian Aerospace Forces.

No official statement has yet been issued by Russian authorities regarding the scale of the damage or a timeline for resuming production.

From a broader perspective, the incident may carry operational implications. The Su-57 remains a key platform in Russia’s efforts to modernise its air capabilities, particularly in the context of the war in Ukraine. Any disruption to its production — even temporary — could affect the pace at which Russia is able to sustain and expand its more advanced aviation assets.
