Presidents of Ukraine and Romania, during the Poroshenko’s visit to Bucharest, talked about establishment of a joint, brigade-sized unit, involving soldiers from Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria. Poroshenko, together with the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, considered an option of bringing such unit to life. The element would operate on the basis of the experience gathered by the equivalent Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian brigade.
Poroshenko had also discussed the options within that scope also with the President of Bulgaria, Rosen Plevneliev, during the visit the Bulgarian politician had made to Kiev last year. According to the statements made by Petro Poroshenko, the Ukrainian President, forming such unit would increase the level of regional security, it would also improve the general security situation in Europe. Poroshenko stated that the experiences gathered during the operations undertaken by the LITPOLUKRBRIG unit are exceptionally positive. He noted that he is convinced that creating an equivalent, Ukrainian-Romanian-Bulgarian brigade would increase the level of security and trust among the states located within the region.
President of Ukraine also announced that a memorandum has been signed with Romania, establishing joint border patrols, the purpose of which would be to jointly combat trafficking, corruption and illegal immigration in the border region of both countries. Additional cooperation agreement within the domain of military transport has been also concluded, ensuring effective collaboration between the defence organs of Ukraine and Romania.
