MESKO S.A. has reported on the progress of investments intended to raise the company’s production capacity of 155 mm artillery ammunition to 150,000 rounds per year.
MESKO S.A., together with its subsidiaries within the MESKO Capital Group, produces 155 mm ammunition. Shell manufacturing takes place at the Kraśnik plant, and the company is expanding its expertise in this area.
“The investment at the Kraśnik factory is a milestone in MESKO S.A.’s development and a response to the growing needs of the Polish Armed Forces. We are increasing our capacity to deliver ammunition that is critical for Poland’s security and to strengthening the country’s defence at a pivotal moment for Europe and NATO,” emphasizes Renata Gruszczyńska, President of the Management Board of MESKO S.A.
“Kraśnik is already a key production site for 155 mm shell bodies. I want to stress that we are not starting from scratch or clearing forest land for this investment; we are building on our existing technological and manufacturing capabilities to expand the production we already have in place. Equally important, we manufacture all the critical components ourselves; we do not assemble imported, ready-made parts. At the same time, we are working intensively to establish the production capacity for modular charges for 155 mm ammunition at our Pionki facility. Once this goal is achieved, those charges will also be produced in Poland. We are advancing the business plan in this regard and seeking funding,” adds Renata Gruszczyńska.
She notes that the new production lines and machinery purchased for the Kraśnik plant will increase automation and efficiency, improve working conditions, and support steady employment growth in the Lublin region.
Increased Output
MESKO S.A. is systematically carrying out investments to expand its 155 mm ammunition production capabilities at the Kraśnik plant. Recently, the company modernized equipment for hot plastic forming, mechanical machining, and heat treatment, and also purchased state of the art lathes and welding machines, as well as lifting equipment and precision measuring tools. Renovations were also completed on the rooms housing the welding machines and parts of the pressing hall.
In the second half of 2024, efforts to multiply the company’s 155 mm production capacity intensified significantly. Using its own funds, MESKO S.A. acquired from the Kraśnik Bearing Factory a property complex comprising three plots totaling about 1.53 hectares, equipped with the necessary industrial infrastructure. The company also purchased from the Kraśnik municipality a plot of over 1 ha for warehouse space. Agreements have been signed to acquire additional equipment.
Building on this foundation—and with co funding from the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of State Assets through the Capital Investment Fund—MESKO S.A. is implementing a project to surge its annual 155 mm shell output to 150,000 rounds.
Work is ongoing. According to the company’s statement, this year construction will begin to expand the production hall to approximately 8,000 m², alongside modernization of the existing facilities. The investment is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2027.
A Strategic Investment for National Security
“The Kraśnik investment not only raises our company’s production capacity but also genuinely strengthens the entire national defense industry. We are building technological and manufacturing independence in strategic ammunition for the Polish Army, which in today’s geopolitical context is of crucial importance for the country’s security. This project is part of a broader strategy to ‘Polonize’ the supply chain and develop end to end production capabilities on Polish territory,” emphasizes Krzysztof Marwicki, Member of the Management Board of MESKO S.A.
“With this investment, MESKO becomes the foundation of Poland’s ability to conduct sustained artillery operations. Systems like the Krab self propelled howitzer or the K9 Thunder require a continuous, high-volume supply of ammunition, and our actions will ensure this supply can be maintained without relying on external providers. This is a concrete response to the needs of a modernizing army and a key step toward ensuring its highest level of combat readiness,” notes Marcin Ożóg, Member of the Management Board of MESKO S.A.
