Poland Approved to Receive Newest AMRAAM Missiles

The Polish Air Force will soon be enriched with the latest American AIM-120D3 air-to-air missiles. The total value of the transaction is approximately $1.33 billion.

The AIM-120D3 missiles are the latest version of the AMRAAM family of missiles, characterised by a significantly increased range of up to 180 kilometres and more advanced guidance systems. Compared to older versions (including C-5, C-7 and C-8), which are already in use in Poland, the D3 offers a completely new quality on the battlefield. Australia, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom have already received approval to purchase these missiles from the US. The three countries will use them on F-35 fighter jets.
In addition to the missiles themselves, under the potential contract, Poland will receive, among other things, test equipment, encryption devices, spare parts, technical documentation, as well as engineering and training support. The main contractor for the order will be the American company RTX Corporation from Tucson, Arizona.
According to the American side, the sale of the missiles will improve the defence capabilities of Poland and NATO as a whole, as well as strengthen security in the region. The AIM-120D3 will also be supplied to the air forces of Australia, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, where they will be used on F-35 fighter jets, among other platforms.
