Baltic defence and transatlantic unity
In this Defence24 interview, Louis Wierenga from the Baltic Defence College emphasises the importance of close cooperation between Europe and the United States. He argues that transatlantic unity remains the backbone of regional stability and deterrence against Russian aggression.
Wierenga highlights the progress being made by the Baltic states in strengthening their defence capabilities. Investments in modernisation, readiness, and regional coordination are building a stronger shield on NATO’s eastern flank. These efforts, he explains, are not only about national security but also about contributing to collective defence.
At the same time, Wierenga underscores that Ukraine urgently needs continued Western support. Sustained military, political, and financial assistance is essential for Kyiv to withstand ongoing Russian attacks and to ensure Europe’s security is not undermined.
