The first official foreign visit of President of the Republic of Poland Karol Nawrocki is about to begin. On Wednesday, September 3, he will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House. For several reasons, this will be an event worth following closely.
Visit Schedule
On Tuesday, September 2, in the evening local time, the aircraft carrying the Polish President will land at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington, D.C. The following day at 11:00 a.m., the official meeting between President Nawrocki and U.S. President Donald Trump will begin at the White House. According to information provided by Marcin Przydacz, Head of the International Policy Bureau of the Chancellery of the President of Poland, Wednesday will be the most intensive day of the entire visit to the United States, although it is not ruled out that the following day the Polish President may also meet with members of Congress. On August 5, on his way back from Washington, President Nawrocki is scheduled to make a second foreign visit—this time to the Vatican.
Talks in the Oval Office
The key issue in the context of the Polish delegation’s visit to the United States is, of course, the subject matter of the talks with Donald Trump. According to Zbigniew Bogucki, Chief of the Chancellery of the President of Poland, discussions in the Oval Office will focus on matters related to military and energy security. It is not difficult to guess that in the first case, the conversation will touch on the continuation of military equipment purchases from the United States and a series of Polish-American defense contracts. It is highly likely that the agenda will also include discussion of the continued presence of the U.S. Army in Poland and Europe (a review commissioned by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth). According to the presidential office, the meeting with Donald Trump will also be an opportunity to justify and explain Poland’s distrust toward Russia and Vladimir Putin—particularly important in light of potential future talks between the U.S. President and the Russian leader.

Agreements with other states
This last topic may prove to be a particularly important point of Wednesday’s talks at the White House. It is worth recalling that just last week President Nawrocki held significant consultations with leaders of the Baltic Sea region, during which they discussed Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the state of peace negotiations being conducted under the leadership of Donald Trump. It may well be that Nawrocki’s meeting with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs, Estonian President Alar Karis, and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen served as preparation for a joint position on Russia policy, which these countries intend to present unanimously to the U.S. President. One can only hope that this joint stance will reach the occupant of the White House and his advisors and influence U.S. policy toward the Kremlin.
New Aircraft for Poland?
Returning to the possible topics of the Trump-Nawrocki talks, it is worth noting a particular detail in the Wednesday visit program published on the website of the Chancellery of the President of Poland. In addition to the traditional mention of formalities such as the U.S. President introducing the American delegation to the Polish President (and vice versa), the note also includes a reference to a planned “air show.” It is highly probable that the Americans will want to present to the Polish delegation aircraft or helicopters that the Polish Armed Forces might potentially be interested in acquiring (in 2019, during President Andrzej Duda’s visit, F-35s flew over the White House). Whether this will indeed be the case will become clear in the coming hours…
