Polish Self-Propelled Bridges for the Heaviest Tanks

The Research and Development Center for Mechanical Devices, OBRUM, has announced the completion of the certification process for the PM-20 bridge span.

According to OBRUM’s statement, the PM-20 bridge span has successfully passed certification for an increased load capacity of up to 85/113 MLC. This is highly significant news, as it means that PM-20 bridge spans can now be used to create crossings for even the heaviest armored vehicles in the arsenal of the Polish Armed Forces.

Raising the load capacity to MLC 85/113 allows the bridge span to support tracked vehicles weighing up to 77 tons or wheeled vehicles weighing up to 120.5 tons.

So far, the Polish Army has received 43 MS-20 Daglezja-S accompanying bridges. In addition to the MS-20 system, the PM-20 bridge span can also be used on tracked carriers. If a second executive contract for K2 tanks is signed and implemented, the PM-20 span would likely be mounted on a new carrier based on this tank platform.

MS-20 Daglezja-S accompanying bridges utilize a Jelcz C662D.43 (6×6) truck with a hydraulic transport trailer. They enable the crossing of obstacles up to 20 meters wide, with full deployment taking less than 30 minutes.
