Poland deploys fighter jets to Estonia
Poland will deploy fighter jets to Ämari Air Base in Estonia as part of NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission. This is an important signal for Estonia and the entire region, because air policing remains one of the most visible elements of NATO’s presence on the eastern flank.
Poland’s decision strengthens the security of Estonia and the Baltic states, but also shows that Warsaw is not only a beneficiary of allied presence. Poland is increasingly acting as a provider of security in the region, especially where the Russian threat is direct and constant.

The Baltic Air Policing mission is not symbolic. Russian aircraft regularly operate near NATO airspace, and the Baltic states do not have their own fighter aviation. This means that allied deployments to Ämari and Šiauliai are a practical part of deterrence, early reaction and daily NATO readiness.

For Poland, this is also a political message. Warsaw understands that security on the eastern flank must be treated as one connected space; from Poland, through Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, to Finland and Sweden. Supporting Estonia from Ämari is therefore not only about air patrols. It is about showing that the defence of the Baltic region is also a Polish responsibility.
