The new tactic was announced on March 3 by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, through the RBK-Ukraine news agency. It involves Shaheds flying at very low altitudes.

Recently, Ukrainian air defense troops have reported incidents of Russian drones flying at altitudes below 100 meters above the ground. This makes the drones harder to detect by radar and, consequently, more difficult to neutralize.

To counter Russian unmanned aerial vehicles, the Ukrainians are deploying their own interceptor drones. According to the Ukrainian side, 1,500 successful interceptions of various types of Russian drones were recorded in February. Training for operators of such systems is currently underway within the Ukrainian army.

According to General Syrskyi, the change in Russian tactics involves not only altering flight altitude but also conducting strikes with large groups of drones. In addition, there have been reports of Shaheds equipped with jet engines. Such drones are faster than most of the interceptor systems currently available to Ukraine.
