Slovakia Interested in K2PL. Deputy Prime Minister Confirms

During a conference marking the end of negotiations on the contract for K2 and K2PL tanks, Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz announced that Slovakia is interested in purchasing K2PL tanks.
According to the minister, Slovakia has put other procurement plans and its bid‑evaluation process on hold in order to secure the option of acquiring the K2PL variant, which will be manufactured at Polish facilities. The agreement covering the purchase of K2PL vehicles thus paves the way for Slovakia to obtain these tanks. Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak‑Kamysz also said he discussed the matter with Slovakia’s defence minister at the NATO summit in The Hague.
At the conference, the minister additionally confirmed that Poland intends to make full use of the framework agreement, which covers 1,000 K2 and K2PL tanks, of which the first 180 are currently being delivered, and the next batch, including over 60 in the K2PL variant plus accompanying vehicles, will be supplied under the newly negotiated contract.
The K2PL tanks will feature the upgraded configuration; a mock‑up was presented during the press conference.

This means that, in the longer term, further orders are planned for a total of 640 tanks for Poland, and additional vehicles—beyond those provided for in the framework agreement—will be earmarked for export.
Let us recall that the current contract is valued at USD 6.7 billion (approximately PLN 24 billion). Besides 180 tanks—over 60 of which will be the K2PL variant, to be produced predominantly at the Bumar‑Łabędy plant—and more than 80 accompanying vehicles, it includes a broad technology transfer and a logistics package. The first 30 K2 tanks are to be delivered by 2026.
