“Lithuania accelerates rearmament”

Lithuania is rapidly accelerating defence modernisation and positioning itself as one of the most active NATO states on the eastern flank. Vilnius sees Russia as a long-term strategic threat and therefore continues investing heavily in air defence, military infrastructure, ammunition production and allied cooperation. Particular importance is attached to relations with Germany and Poland, which Lithuania views as crucial pillars of regional deterrence and defence planning.

Lithuanian defence policy is increasingly based on regional integration. The Suwałki Gap, Kaliningrad and the broader Baltic region remain central elements of military planning, while NATO interoperability and European defence cooperation are becoming more important in the context of uncertainty surrounding future American engagement in Europe. Lithuania therefore sees stronger cooperation with neighbouring allies not as an option, but as a strategic necessity for the defence of the eastern flank.
