Mojtaba Khamenei unable to exercise power
Intelligence assessments indicate that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is unconscious. He is reportedly receiving treatment in the holy city of Qom.
The information was published by the British dailyThe Times on Tuesday, April 7. A diplomatic note—apparently based on US and Israeli intelligence—was made public after being circulated among allied states in the Persian Gulf. “Mojtaba Khamenei is being treated in the city of Qom, is in critical condition, and is unable to participate in any decision-making by the regime,” the note reads. This marks the first disclosure of the new Supreme Leader’s whereabouts.
Details regarding the location of the Iranian leader’s treatment were likely known to both American and Israeli intelligence services but have only now been made public. Mojtaba Khamenei was reportedly injured in the same airstrike that killed his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the former Supreme Leader of Iran.
Since the beginning of the war, Mojtaba Khamenei has neither been seen nor heard from. Since his appointment, only two statements attributed to him have been read publicly. A video generated using artificial intelligence was also released, showing the leader entering a command center and analyzing maps. Mojtaba Khamenei’s health condition is believed to remain critical—if he is still alive.
