“European orders create 200,000 jobs in the U.S.”
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced that the value of current European orders for American weapons now amounts to approximately $300 billion. This translates into nearly 200,000 jobs in the US.
On the occasion of this year’s NATO summit, a historic Defense Industry Forum will also be held on July 7 in Ankara. According to the official website of the North Atlantic Alliance, NSDIF26 is intended to be dedicated to transatlantic „defense production, investment, and innovation.” During the event, the progress of allies in implementing the plan agreed upon during last year’s NATO summit in The Hague will be reviewed. This involves allocating 5% of GDP to defense spending by 2035.
The topic of the arms industry was also addressed by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. As the Dutchman noted in a June interview with the „Financial Times,” the policy shift made by a large portion of European members of the North Atlantic Alliance and the allocation of increased funds to strengthen defense have had a tangible result in the form of… American economic growth. According to information provided by Rutte, European orders for weapons from the US (worth approximately $300 billion) currently support nearly 200,000 jobs in the United States.
„Rutte emphasized that European and Canadian investments in American defense technologies contribute to strengthening transatlantic security and industrial potential. He urged military equipment manufacturers to focus on increasing production to meet rapidly growing demand, emphasizing that these investments prove the Alliance is effectively fulfilling its security and financial commitments,” the „Financial Times” reports.
