Sweden is buying new fighter jets
Sweden is undertaking a significant expansion of its air force. Stockholm intends not only to acquire new Gripens but also to significantly reduce the time required to prepare them for combat sorties.
In the near future, the Swedish Air Force intends to reduce fighter turnaround times for operational activities – from the current 15 minutes to less than 10. The changes are to include not only streamlining hot refuelling procedures but also accelerating the loading of Taurus long-range cruise missiles. Indications suggest that these new operational capabilities will be achieved before 2028.
This development of capabilities is to be accompanied by significant investments in new aircraft. The Swedes aim to acquire twelve Gripen E combat aircraft. Regarding this model, the Swedes are also focused on developing the aircraft’s electronic warfare capabilities. This is of particular importance due to cooperation with Saab GlobalEye Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft, which will also soon strengthen the Swedish Air Force.
