The President of Ukraine met today with the Swedish Prime Minister in the city of Linköping. The two leaders signed a letter of intent regarding Kyiv’s purchase of 150 Gripen fighter jets.

„Today we have signed an important Letter of Intent, marking a step towards a massive possible export deal regarding Gripen - likely between 100 and 150 fighter jets, to build a new and very strong Ukrainian Air Force. President Zelensky also got a chance to see first hand the impressive capabilities of the Gripen fighter. This will strengthen both Ukraine, Sweden and Europe”, said the Swedish Prime Minister via X.

„Today we are opening a completely new and truly significant chapter in our relations – the relations between Ukraine and Sweden, and more broadly, in Europe’s overall security framework. Today we signed the first document between our countries that opens the way for Ukraine to acquire a substantial fleet of Swedish Gripen fighters. These are excellent aircraft, robust aviation platforms capable of carrying out a wide range of missions. Everyone can see the threats they help counter. We expect that the future contract will allow us to acquire at least 100 of these aircraft,” commented Volodymyr Zelensky on today’s event.
