Before the dust had even settled after the 33rd International Defense Industry Exhibition (XXXIII MSPO), the public was informed about another investment at PONAR Wadowice. The Małopolska-based company will receive support from the Kraków Technology Park for the expansion and modernization of its Wadowice plant. The project is taking place under the umbrella the Polish Investment Zone, a government-funded business support instrument that replaced the former Special Economic Zones.
The goal is an increase the production capacity of components for the defense industry and dual-use products, meaning those intended for both civilian and military users. PONAR intends to achieve this by constructing a new production hall in Wadowice, with an area of nearly 1,000 m², and modernising the existing facility. The state-of-the-art plant will be completely digitised and fully equipped with CNC machines.
Presence in three regions
The investment will not only increase the processing capacity of the parent factory, but also enable the optimisation of production costs and the technological advancement of the PONAR Wadowice catalogue. This important step will enable the Małopolska-based company to further expand in the domestic and international defence markets. Furthermore, it will contribute to the development and creation of high value jobs in a region undergoing economic transformation as a result of the phase-out of the mining sector.
As a reminder, in early August, it was announced that PONAR Wadowice would receive a PLN 15.4 million grant from the EU’s Just Transition Fund. Thanks to this support, a modern, low-emission production facility will be built at the Łaziska Górne branch (Silesian Voivodeship). Furthermore, at the end of the same month, PONAR announced the purchase of all shares in ZAP-Mechanika Sp. z o.o. from Ostrów Wielkopolski.

A partner of the defence sector
In its 60th year of operation, PONAR Wadowice has focused on growth and increased its investment spending. A year ago, approximately 550 people worked across all branches of the company. Following the acquisition of ZAP-Mechanika, this number increased to over 760, and recruitment for a number of positions is ongoing. The investment at the Wadowice and Łaziska Górne plants will increase the total production area by approximately 3,000 m².
On September 3rd, during MSPO in Kielce, representatives of PONAR Wadowice and Huta Stalowa Wola signed a letter of intent to establish a design consortium. The goal is the joint development and implementation of semi-active hydropneumatic suspension modules for tracked vehicles. Projects such as these clearly demonstrate that the Wadowice-based company has become a significant partner to the Polish defence industry in the fields of power hydraulics and precision machining.
