Swedish Minister of Defence Pål Jonson and his Ukrainian counterpart Denys Shmyhal signed a letter of intent on joint production in Sweden of defense equipment for Ukraine.
According to a statement from the Swedish Ministry of Defence, the decision is intended to help maintain stable supply chains and concentrate defense industry resources both in Sweden and in Ukraine. “The document updates our joint efforts in this area, creates conditions for the implementation of joint projects in the defense industry, and will also ensure the durability and reciprocity of cooperation between our countries. We will continue to exchange technologies and experience in the production of weapons and military equipment in order to strengthen the resilience and self-sufficiency of our defense industries,” said Ukrainian Minister of Defence Denys Shmyhal.
“Sweden is committed to deepening industrial cooperation in the field of defense with Ukraine. Through this letter of intent, we want to strengthen the capabilities of both Sweden and Ukraine. By combining Sweden’s industrial base with Ukrainian innovation and battlefield experience, we can build a stronger joint defense industry,” stated Minister of Defence Pål Jonson.
The Militarnyi portal recalls that at the end of June, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine would sign the first agreements under theBuild with Ukraine program, launched during a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (Ramstein format). The initiative envisions the export of Ukrainian military technologies and the establishment of joint production lines abroad, with priority given to supplying the Ukrainian Armed Forces during wartime.

Sweden joins the ranks of other countries that have openly declared the start of joint production with Ukraine (or on its behalf under broader agreements with third countries). Among them are:
- Montenegro – joint drone production with the USA, part of which will be delivered to Ukraine;
- Czech Republic – co-developed ammunition production lines;
- United Kingdom – a “megaproject” for joint drone production;
- France – involvement of the French automotive industry in UAV production;
In addition, negotiations are also underway with Denmark, Norway, Germany, Lithuania, and Canada regarding joint production and export of defense technologies, including drones, as President Zelensky reported several months ago.
