Polish Tanks with Active Protection? Armament Agency Points to Systems [Defence24 Exclusive]

In response to our question, the Armament Agency provided the following answer:

I inform you that the Armament Agency is currently proceeding with the introduction of an Active Vehicle Protection System (ASOP) into the Polish Armed Forces. To this end, the Agency has approached several suppliers with requests regarding the availability of ASOP systems, delivery times, and the cost of installing the system on tanks and vehicles—both those already in service with the Polish Armed Forces and those being procured. Among the solutions under consideration are, in particular, the TROPHY and IRON FIST systems.

This is very important information for the Armoured and Mechanized Forces. If the ASOP procurement process ends successfully, the Polish Army will finally receive equipment that will significantly increase the survivability of armored vehicles on the battlefield. Crucially, active vehicle protection systems offer defense against a wide range of threats: from projectiles fired from man-portable anti-tank grenade launchers and recoilless rifles, through anti-tank guided missiles, shaped-charge and high-explosive fragmentation ammunition used in tank guns, to loitering munitions (kamikaze drones).

It should be remembered that each system is different. Different platforms may require different systems. For main battle tanks, for example, Trophy HV might be suitable, whereas for infantry fighting vehicles a lighter suite such as Trophy MV/VPS or Iron Fist could be optimal. For wheeled platforms, systems like Trophy LV, Sentinel, or StrikeShield could be procured. Ultimately, Poland should initiate its own research and development work on a domestic solution of this class.
