European law enforcement agencies and the FBI have disrupted activities linked to Islamic State Khorasan Province in Europe. The operation targeted support networks connected with individuals of Chechen and Central Asian origin and led to several arrests.

According to a Europol press release, the week-long action was coordinated by Europol’s European Counter Terrorism Centre and involved services from Belgium, Czechia, Germany, Finland, Italy, Ireland, Spain and the United States. From 1 to 5 June 2026, investigators exchanged intelligence in real time and mapped ISKP-linked travel routes across Europe, South America and the United States.

The scale of the operation shows that ISKP is not only a threat in Afghanistan or the wider region. Its networks in Europe remain active, mobile and connected across borders. More than 100 gigabytes of operational information were exchanged, helping identify suspects and develop several high-priority investigations.

The financial and digital dimension was also important. Europol’s cybercrime centre supported the tracking of cryptocurrency flows, while its financial crime centre worked on financing networks. This matters because terrorist structures today rely not only on people and travel routes, but also on encrypted communication, online propaganda, informal transfers and crypto assets.

For Europe, the operation is another reminder that counter-terrorism is again becoming more operationally demanding. ISKP-linked networks use migration routes, diaspora connections and digital tools to move people, money and instructions across several continents. Arrests are important, but the truth is that terrorist organizations again showed that are capable of operating all over the world.
