“On May 13, 2026, the aggressor state, Russia, launched a comprehensive air attack against Ukraine that may be prolonged. In the first phase of the attack, the aggressor is using a significant number of combat drones to overwhelm Ukraine’s air defence system and destroy civilian facilities,” the Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR) of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine said in a post on Telegram.

Russian targets are said to include critical infrastructure facilities and systems that ensure the functioning of major cities. Energy facilities, defense industry enterprises, and buildings of state authorities are being attacked. According to intelligence data, in addition to drones and ballistic missiles, the attacks have also involved air- and sea-launched cruise missiles.

Since the morning of May 13, an air raid alert has been in effect across Ukraine due to attacks by Russian drones. Many of them were heading west toward the area of Volyn Oblast, which borders Poland. More than 200 Russian drones are currently believed to be in Ukrainian airspace. They are striking targets in the central and western parts of the country. The unmanned aircraft are also reportedly approaching Lviv.
