“We are deepening industrial cooperation with Poland on Abrams”
Poland is rapidly becoming a key European support hub for Abrams tanks. The year 2025 saw major progress, with large-scale deliveries, concrete industrial cooperation on training and technology transfer, and substantial spare-parts production in partnership with the Polish industry.

After completion of deliveries of 116 M1A1FEP tanks in 2024, transfers of the latest M1A2 SEPv3 began in 2025. Poland has already received 117 of the 250 ordered vehicles, and the full programme is due to finish in 2026, less than two years after the first delivery.

At the same time the foundations of industrial cooperation have been established. In May 2025 Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne S.A. and General Dynamics Land Systems finalised a framework agreement, and a month later a training programme commenced to qualify WZM staff in operation and repair of M1A1FEP and SEPv3 Abrams variants.
The Abrams programme in Poland is not limited to equipment deliveries. It delivers tangible capabilities — maintenance, repairs, training and parts production — that raise the combat readiness of the Polish Armed Forces and strengthen NATO’s logistical resilience on the eastern flank, said Christopher Brown, Vice-President for Global Strategy and International Development, GDLS.
In September 2025 GDLS announced eight contracts with Polish companies to produce 52 unique Abrams components, opening opportunities for export and growth through access to GDLS’s global production base.

The programme is also drawing further US partners. In April 2025 BAE Systems signed a licence agreement with WZM covering broad-scope maintenance of M88 recovery vehicles. Allison Transmission Inc. has also begun cooperation enabling maintenance, repair and overhaul of transmissions used not only in Abrams tanks but in other key platforms employed by the Polish Armed Forces.

In November 2025 the 2nd Regional Logistics Base of the Polish Armed Forces signed a framework agreement with Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze nr 1 for overhaul and repair of the Abrams AGT1500 engine manufactured by Honeywell. This is a key step towards establishing in-country technical support and overhaul capability for the AGT1500. To provide immediate engine support, US Field Service Representatives (FSR) remain on site to assist the in-service Abrams fleet.

The year 2026 will see further intensification of industrial cooperation between the United States and Poland, supporting military vehicles in Poland and across Central and Eastern Europe.

The Regional Competence Centre at WZM in Poznań will play an increasingly important role and, as the Abrams fleet in the region grows, will become a natural support node for allied forces. Tangible technology transfer, workforce training, involvement of domestic industry, spare-parts production and logistic sovereignty all have significant potential to deepen that cooperation.

Team Abrams is a community that remains deeply involved in Polish affairs. The Transfer of Technology, domestic industry patricipation and capabilities established in Poland are not pursued under the burden of any agreements, law, or politics, but they serve as a reference point for what is right, the mutual industrial benefits between transatlantic partners that in turn create tangible, strategic capacity for Poland and the Alliance, Chirstopher Brown said.
