Another round of negotiations in the Ukraine-US-Russia format
In Geneva, on Tuesday, December 17, another round of negotiations began with the participation of representatives from Ukraine, the USA, and Russia. The goal of the Ukrainian delegation is to achieve lasting peace in the country as quickly as possible.
The talks concerned security issues and humanitarian matters. The chairman of the Ukrainian delegation is Rustem Umerov – Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council. The Ukrainian side will also be represented by the head of the President’s Office, Kyrylo Budanov, his first deputy, Sergiy Kyslytsya, the chairman of the parliamentary faction of the Servant of the People party, Davyd Arakhamia, and the deputy head of military intelligence, General Vadym Skibitskyi.
On Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that one of the topics to be addressed in this round of peace negotiations will be territorial issues. The Russian side is represented by the special representative of the Russian leader for investments, Kirill Dmitriev, the military intelligence chief, Igor Kostyukov, and Vladimir Putin’s advisor, Vladimir Medinsky.
The American delegation consists of the US President’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Both men have just taken part in US-Iran negotiations concerning Iran’s nuclear arsenal.
The war in Ukraine continues; soon it will be 4 years since the Russian invasion in February 2022. As of yet, the Ukraine-US-Russia negotiation format has not brought meaningful results except for the prisoner exchange.
